Step 1:
Decide on Your Mood
Stripes aren't just visual. They shape how a space feels, and how you feel in it.
Before anything else, decide this: How do you want the room to feel?
Stripes Have Character
Stripes don't have to behave.
Wavy, painterly, artful and uneven stripes bring movement and a sense of play.
They can feel grand, expressive, even a little theatrical, while still bringing structure, order, and visual height to a room.
Stripes can bring order to a space, create energy and movement, or calm everything down.
You're not just picking a pattern. You're creating a mood.
Step 2:
Find Your Scale
Medium-to-wide stripes → elongate walls, confident and classic
Narrow stripes → soften into texture or color fields
Extra-wide stripes → feel physical, monolithic, and architectural
Ticking Stripes → dainty yet functional, heritage inspired
Pinstripes → tailored, subtly disruptive, chic
Guidelines for Existing Elements and Features
The idea is to create contrast and keep the room from feeling flat, overwhelmed or overly matched.
Oversized furniture → go small(er) or medium with your stripe
Refined furniture → go larger or more expressive
Large rooms → wide stripes carry presence and thin stripes create background
Small rooms → narrow stripes create interest at close range
